Michael Kling joined Foundation Medicine in April of 2019 and currently serves as the company's Chief Technology Officer. He has over twenty years of technology leadership experience in the healthcare and biotech spaces, as well as a deep passion for making a positive impact on people’s lives.

In his role as CTO, Kling leads the Technology function and is responsible for helping Foundation Medicine transform cancer care by creating innovative digital products, scaling and streamlining technology platforms for business operations, and generating insights through data solutions. He is also committed to creating a culture of creativity, collaboration and inclusion on all his teams.

Before joining Foundation Medicine, Kling held multiple leadership roles at United Health Group. During his time there, he built development organizations and led delivery for several high-profile, large-scale, data-intensive technology platforms. Most recently, he was responsible for creating complex data and analytic platforms for OptumCare, supporting value-based care and integrated care delivery for 13 regional care delivery networks.

Previously, Kling played a key leadership role in building and delivering a cloud-native, microservice-based healthcare administration and claims-processing platform. He also held leadership roles in delivery of a consumer-centric digital health platform, where he created the technology strategy for an in-home palliative care business and was the technical lead for genomics working with Optum and United Health Group R&D.

Prior to United Health Group, Kling worked at Eliza, a company focused on artificial intelligence for automated member communications in the healthcare space. He held multiple leadership roles, in which he drove technical strategy and platform delivery and helped the company through multiple stages of growth and acquisition.

Kling is a computer scientist and software engineer from his early career. He has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Binghamton University.
